[00:00:03] Speaker B: city where no pity is.
[00:00:04] Speaker A: Shell.
[00:00:04] Speaker C: Shell.
[00:00:04] Speaker A: Somebody need to do a song for la. Straight up.
Hello, my name is Elaine, and I'll be your tour guide through South Central Los Angeles.
[00:00:18] Speaker B: Look, count my dough and smoke up. I'm from California. Where you from? So what? I'm from California. California. California. California.
[00:00:29] Speaker A: This is Los Angeles. Well, where we going?
[00:00:31] Speaker B: West 1.
[00:01:05] Speaker A: Did y' all had the. The Ninja Turtle pajamas? Did that come in too high? Is that too loud?
I might need to back up. Anyhow, look, the other night, I was just thinking about some. First of all, Styles. I haven't been on the. The poor report. You know, the. The brunch behavior. What's going. What's going on? You don't like West Coast?
We got drinks, too. I got a drink.
I got a drink. I would like to, you know, break down the ingredients and stuff like that. Hey, King Germ, when you get in touch with Styles, man, tell them, like, what's going on, bro?
We drink over here to. Now, I'm.
I drink a lot of wine, okay? I'm not gonna even the hard stuff. The hard liquor is not my thing, you know? It's just not my thing overall.
Did I ever tell y' all that I was a certified bartender and never served a drink?
True story.
True story.
I digress.
The other day, I was just thinking about the Ninja Turtles.
Did y' all have the pajamas? I had the pajamas, all right. I had Michelangelo, and I had Donatello, unfortunately.
And why did I say unfortunately? Because I need to break down the different Turtles. See, when it came to leadership, first of all, the most popular Ninja Turtle of all time, by far. Everybody knows Michelangelo, he was just the coolest. He was the dopest one. He's like one of your favorite cousins. That's the energy that he gave you.
You know what I mean? But it had me thinking, like, when it came to the Turtles, who was really the leader?
You know, Naturally, everybody, especially the core fan base, would tell you, man, I mean, it was Leonardo, you know, it was Gucci blue bandana.
He was the leader, you know, because when you think about.
Well, before we get there. Sport Turtle, okay, phenomenal. These did 87 was probably the best year for me, man.
I was five at that time.
You know, the Ninja Turtles had took off. Did y' all know the original Ninja Turtles, bro? They didn't even. They wouldn't even color coded. All of them had red bandanas on all of them.
You know, I think the creator at the time thought that you Know, by them have, you know, by them having different weapons, people would be able to tell the difference. And it wasn't enough. It wasn't so, you know, later on down the line, you know, they said, no, we're gonna have a blue one, red one, purple one and orange one. Dope. And I like how they broke down the, the, the, the, the personality traits of these turtles and stuff like that. Right.
But you know, when you think about, especially back in the 80s and the 90s, we had a few cartoons back then where they had a strong. When you knew who the leader was, you know, and with the Power Rangers, Red Ranger, everybody knew he was the leader.
Now did things get shaken up a little bit? Yeah, once the Green Ranger and once the White Ranger came along, it's a power dynamic. Like it's a power struggle, you know, Especially when it came to the Green Ranger because that nigga stepped on the scene like that nigga just knew everything.
And he fought them niggas inside like he, he beat all them niggas up and threw them out.
That's some gangster stuff right there. That's why Green Ranger, his villainist will always rank high.
Do I even know that? Did I make that word up? I don't know if I did or not. I've never heard villainous, but top tier villain. I think I may even have a show of top five villains of all time or something like that Green Ranger is in there.
Anyhow, let's get back to a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, one of the dopest cartoons of all time.
I think that when it came to the leadership thing, man, it was different, you know? It was different. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait a minute. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. We got an incoming. Incoming, incoming.
What's going on here?
[00:05:37] Speaker C: Hey, yo, what's going on, Baylor, man? Sitting here listening to your episode. TV off. Turn my TV off. You know, because for some reason I haven't been seeing your episodes, but I've. I stumbled upon a treasure trove of BTG for presidents and I've been binging them all day and actually got me through my workout. I was on the road machine listening to you talk. You actually got a relaxing voice that got me through my workout, I swear to you. So shout out to you, Baylor. But you was mentioning Great Goat TV shows, game changers, and you forgot about the main game changer. And that's the Simpsons. Put some respect on the Simpsons name, bro. We didn't grew up with Bart Simpson, bro. Bart Simpson was a kid. When we was a kid, he's still a kid. Now we adults. Ah. Hey, bro, The Simpsons. I don't know how long they've been on for like 30, maybe damn near 40 years, bro. The Simpsons, man, you got to give some respect to the Simpsons. But look, I don't know if you're gonna play this on the show or not, but if you do, shout out to Baylor. Shout out to the BTG Nation. It's your boy king Germ, 1/2 of Ponceta marriage. We shoot a show every Friday on all DSP. DSPs. Me and my wife, man, come over there, get y' all some funny.
[00:06:48] Speaker A: And the Simpsons had. To me.
To me, they had a top 10 episode. Well, was it. Was it just one? So here's the thing. They built moments throughout that. Damn. And he's right, because to me, Simpsons has got to be a top five show of all time across all shows across all genres.
And he's right, because I remember when I first came across the Simpsons, they weren't. They didn't even have their own show. They was a part of a skit show. And they used to pop up every now and then. I forgot what the artist was it called. Was her name Tracy? I forgot her name. I forgot her name. But she was a comedian, and they was basically, you know, they was like the sidekicks. And then they took off. They took off that. And. Hey, man, they got something with that. They got something. Cause he's right. They. You know, the whole thing about who shot Mr. Burns, I mean, that's some classic shit. Or. Or Sideshow Bob. When that. When. When that. When that motherfucker was after Bart, like, that's. This nigga just had this weird obsession with Bart, you know what I'm saying? When that nigga fell in the. When that nigga fell in the well.
And there's a hole in my heart that's deep as a whale. This poor boy. Like, it was a. They made moments.
They made classic moments. Even when it came down to. I think I talked to Britt about this.
We used to have shows where they had themes inside the show. Like we had.
We got the Christmas version shows, we got the Halloween version shows, and they all came out during that season. You know, unless it was, what you call it, rerun, you know, come Christmas time around that time, they will have Christmas episodes, they'll have Thanksgiving episodes, Valentine's Day episodes. Like, they had all these man made holidays, and some of them, you know, they did their thing with that. And Simpsons was also a part of that as well. They had Halloween episodes. They had Christmas episodes.
And like I said, every single.
Like every single artist. I mean, artist, every single character pretty much got the spotlight, you know what I'm saying? And what a curveball they threw when Mr. Burns bitch ass got shot, you know what I'm saying? And they probably have the most. I know we talk about Eddie and Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence when all those characters that they played in their shows or Eddie Murphy and his movies and stuff like that, the different role, the different characters he would play, but when you talk about a show that created so many side characters, you know what I mean? They had so many side characters, bro, that you just know by name, you know?
But, yeah, he's right on that. He's totally right. And it's just one of those things where, you know, don't blame it to my.
And blame my heart. Play my head, you know what I'm saying? Like, I just be forgetting sometimes, but. Shout out to King Germ, let's get back to these turtles.
I'm just going to go through the first two that just didn't make it, you know what I'm saying? And that is. Let's just start with Michelangelo. Michelangelo, to me, I think, based off of popularity, he will always be number one when it comes to popularity, you know, like I said, he's a cool turtle, but everything else is just. He might be ranked a little bit. Just a little bit lower. And the reason why I say that is because his charisma will always be there. His loyalty.
He kept people grounded. And that's the thing that's not talked about a lot is Michelangelo kept the turtles humble, you know what I'm saying? Grounded, you know, like, It's just one of those things where it was just natural talent, but he was also a wild card. He was also a wild card. You never knew what he was going to do. If I had to put this in NBA terms, he would probably be like Steph Curry, John Moran, like, explosive, you know what I'm saying? Off the dribble, and he going to pull from the logo, you know what I'm saying?
He's going to throw that.
He gonna throw that rock up and then turn around, look at the crowd celebrate before I go in. That's who Michelangelo was. He had the nunchucks, probably one of the most popular martial art weapons of all time, you know what I'm saying? Bruce Lee was. Was great at that shit. He would hypnotize you, you know, not everybody can do that. And that was his specialty right there. And he did and he did it well.
But his childishness ways kept him from being just the number one guy all the time.
Trust and believe. I think at any time, anyone can be the leader, you know what I'm saying? But I think the official leader. We'll talk about that in a minute.
All four turtles was capable of being the leader. And I'm just telling you why, in their different ways, is that. He kept niggas grounded, you know what I'm saying? He made sure that you enjoy life and you knew what it is to have fun, you know, not to take things too serious, but was able to step up in serious moments, you know what I mean? He's the energy leader. The energy leader right there. All right, so then we go to Donatello. Now, let's just. Let's just be honest. He wasn't a fan favorite. He was there. He was noticeable, but he wasn't the one that we ran out to. I actually got his. I had his pajamas. I had him, and I had Michelangelo. And the reason why I had Donatello was because the other three were being sold out fast. Just so happened to get the Michelangelo ones. But Leonardo and Raphael, they were as popular, just as popular as Michelangelo. That's the truth. Donatello was always the least favorite. Always the least favorite. Now, it wasn't hate. It's just that those other personalities came with an extra boost, you know what I'm saying? And I'll get to it. I just explained what Michelangelo was. He was just super cool, you know what I'm saying? If you wasn't like him, you wanted to be like him, the cool cousin, you know what I'm saying? Cowabunga wasn't even scripted. That was just randomly said in the episode.
I'm putting y' all niggas up on game. And then they just kept it. They just kept it. But Donatello, he was smart. This was AI Before AI Was a thing, you know, calculated.
He had the BO staff. It's called a BO staff.
Right? I'm learning all this stuff is. Is thought. It's a thoughtful soul, peace type of weapon.
I would consider him a floor general, kind of like Bron or Joker, you know what I mean? Not necessarily saying their overall career. Stay with me. Stay with me. Because you jumping a gun. But I'm talking about as far as they floor vision. That's where his leadership comes in at.
He may not have been the main leader, but he was the leader when he was the leader that the actual leader or leaders would come to for some type of advice. Or some type of insight, some type of strategy, you know what I mean?
Donald Teller was always there, like, no, I got something. I got something that we could use, you know what I mean? Like, or maybe we should do it like this. Because I calculated this. You know, this was counting stats. This was a stat type of. This know how many records was being sold type of.
Okay. He was smart, he was intelligent. You know, he's a. He. He. He was out. He was. He was outside calc and. But he was still outside. And he had hands. He had hands. He was just more of the. Of the geeky side. And nobody around that time, nobody wanted to be around. No. Nobody wanted to take on the Persona of a geeky person that didn't start kicking until later, the decades later. Now everybody want to be a nerd and like that, but he was pretty much the nerd of the crew. Come to find out, the nerd can run a lot of.
You know what I'm saying? These. These nerd is buying up platforms and, and, and. And building smart cars and houses and like that. So, you know, shout out to Donatello, man.
Like I said, man, he was just. He was the. He was a Ninja Turtle, AI. Intelligent type, you know, type of floor general. But now let's get to the. Let's. Hey, let's get to the championship game.
Get to the championship game.
One thing that I would like to point out is that you could really break these things down. You could break these turtles down by like the best thing that they. That they do. To me, Michelangelo's the most natural one, right?
And then you got Donatello, who I just finished talking about. I think he's the most valuable, you know what I'm saying, When it comes to information and resources.
Now when we get to Rafael and Leonardo, these are two who are always bunted heads. They love each other, but there's a rivalry between these two because this is how I always looked at it. I looked at Leonardo as a teacher's pet.
Honestly, I did. Because he always wanted to do the right thing. You know what I'm saying? There's nothing wrong with that. He's a strategic leader. He gonna stick to the mission and he gonna make sure it's structured.
This is a nigga who washes the dishes, dries them, and then puts em up all in one setting. He don't even let the motherfucker sit in the strainer and just drip dry. That nigga's grabbing a towel, he's drying them off and he's putting them up and he's putting them up in order.
Your mu.
Your Kool Aid cups, your Mason jars, they all are organized and put together, you know, that's Leonardo, you know, and you can't hate on that. That's just natural.
He's an all around type of player. He leads through, like, discipline and balance at the end of the day, you know what I'm saying?
So.
And that's cool, and that's cool, but I think it lacked aggression. And that's when you bring in the killer. Now, see, Leonardo, he had the katana. I forgot to mention he got the katana. And it's basically the courage and a keen skill to handle those two damn swords, you know? And if I had to compare him to anybody, I would say he's Kobe 24. He's number 24, Kobe slash Tim Duncan, okay? And he's the official.
He's the official leader. I'm giving the official leader. But then we're going to go to Ralphie. Ralphie, to me, the best ninjas turtle. Because all he needs to do is control his emotions. And that's basically what he is.
He's driven by emotion and passion and the love. And he's the family protector, you know what I mean? So if I had to. If I had to compare him, he would be Kobe number eight.
He would be Kobe number eight and Draymond Green.
That's who. He would. You know, that's who. And then also he's the locker room voice, and that's very important because if you lose the locker room, you have no chance of winning the playoffs player, okay? Unless you got a hell of a coach.
But he's the locker room voice. But he led off of emotions. He got the twin. He got the twin side. And that means fearless warrior and family protector. That's. That's them. That's them things. I forgot what they call that, but that's what. That's. That's what it is. That's what it is.
When you think about Ralph, it's instinct, you know what I'm saying? Like Leonardo, you could build around Leo, but Ralph is going to win the battles, you know what I'm saying? Like Donatello, he gonna. He gonna. He gonna. He's gonna win you the game. He's gonna win you the game. Cause he's gonna strategize inside the game.
Michelangelo, he gonna create moments in the game, you know what I'm saying? So Donnie's gonna help you win the game. Michelangelo's gonna create the moments in the game.
Ralph is gonna Help you win that battle.
Ralph is gonna win that battle.
And it just so happened that Leo is just all he collective, you know what I'm saying? I think he lacks what Michelangelo has, but I think he, he, he has a little bit of Donatello in him. And I think he communicates with Donatello the best, you know what I'm saying? His leadership, his leadership and his role has to connect with Donatello.
Ralphie on the other end, I liked him because Kobe no. 8 was just reckless.
You know what I mean? 28. I mean, 24 and 8 is. They numbers is almost damn near identical. But it was two different ways they did it. You know what I'm saying? It's two ways that they went about it. Because Ralphie is a fighter. He's a fighter.
And both like to me, Leonardo was a chosen leader, right, because he has the discipline to lead through like chaos.
But truly, I think true leadership, it was shared amongst the four. Amongst the four.
Now Ralphie is like again, the emotional leaders. He's going to push the truth and he's going to challenge authorities and he's going to protect his family while doing that. You know what I mean? And I would be, I would be lying if I said I choose Ralph at first. I did. Cause it's like if you are a fan of Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, and so on and so on.
A lot of it doesn't really have to do with the accolades.
In a debate, it's gonna come up.
But at the end of the day, it's the style of play.
Then after the style of play, it's the moment.
And if you want to go further than that, then you gonna bring up stats and so on and so on. But initially it's the eye test. I like this style of play. I like how they play and I like how they approach the game.
And no matter if Leonardo led it the right way, he was always concerned about safety. He was always concerned about approaching it the right way. He was always concerned about being effic, right?
And in a lot of battles, you need that because you're not always going to fight against the same type of person. You're not going to go into a game playing against the same type of players playing the same type of defense.
And Leonardo knew how to adjust and when to adjust in game. Coach Rafael, on the other hand, is saying, n, I'm not playing defense like that. I'm on offense. Gas is on, nigga, we're on go right now.
I gotta protect my family at all. Needs and whoever is in the way gotta go. They gotta move.
And I felt Ralphie on that one, and he like, yo, let's go. Now, the pros and the cons to that is what? Well, at the end of the day, you can lead yourself into a trap.
When it comes to the original Ninja Turtle movies, Ralphie was the first one to get kidnapped and get his ass beat up. Why? Because emotionally, after having a fight with Leonardo, nigga went to go take a walk, and he stumbled across some shit that he felt like he can handle by himself, and he just didn't because he was outnumbered. He handled him, but he was outnumbered at the end of the day, you know what I'm saying?
Once Splinter got his ass kidnapped, they showed his true character.
He lashed out, screamed.
You know what I'm saying? Damn near half the city heard him because he's emotional.
He's all about family.
And I think at the end of the day, you gonna need that in some battles. But overall, to be smart, to make sure you make it to the next battle, you might have to just go with Leonardo.
Well, that's it, man. You know, if y' all watch Ninja Turtles like I did, you're dope. If you had the pajamas like I did, you're even doper.
All right, y' all be good. Y' all stay out of. Y'. All. Y' all stay out of trouble.
And it's some playoff basketball. I don't know why is tripping, man, but basketball has been back since the, you know, the NCAA tournament. Women's really. I mean, shit. Shout out to ucla.
