[00:00:18] Speaker A: Look, count my nose. [00:00:20] Speaker C: Smoke up. [00:00:20] Speaker A: I'm from California. Where you from? [00:00:23] Speaker C: So what? [00:00:24] Speaker A: I'm from California. California. California. California. This is Los Angeles. [00:00:30] Speaker D: Well, where we going? [00:00:31] Speaker B: West. [00:00:31] Speaker E: What? Jesus. [00:01:08] Speaker A: Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you. We are gathered here today not to mourn a person, but an error, an era when what you wore to school could determine how the entire day went. Now, before online shopping, before Instagram, before somebody could Google your shoes to see how much they cost, there was only one question. What are you wearing tomorrow? Now, brother Carl Kanai that is born into the culture, raised in the streets, survive countless school pictures, house parties, nigga, I mean, excuse me, Lord. And Friday night leaves behind several oversized shirts, denim sets, and approximately 700. Sorry, 700 photographs taken in front of somebody's mama's living room curtains. I know how hard it is. I know how difficult it could be when it comes to loved one being gone. You understand what I'm saying? A loved one being gone. Oversized white tee, the jersey with the matching. Fitted the button up shirt with the dragon flames on it, the matching denim outfit, the Tommy Hill figure selling jacket, the FUBU jersey. Platinum fubu too. But the, the. The belt buckles, dog. Now, I wasn't part of the. I wasn't part of that era that had the belt buckles. The, with the, with. What's that shit called? With the letter with the words. Oh, I forgot what it's called. I wasn't doing all that. I was in college by that time. I was an adult when those were something. The wallet chain. Some cats was. Some cats like that rock and roll style. And some cats was influenced by Dipset. That's a fact. So, I mean, that wasn't my thing. I thought it was a cool thing. It just, it never. I never got around to doing it myself. But I thought it was a dope thing, though. And then I've seen a lot of cats do that before. Dipset, you know, made it a popular thing for the black community, I guess. But it was. I. I've always seen it. But more of the black community started to do. To do it during the college years, the early 2000s. The. The 2002s, threes, fours and fives. Somewhere around that era, you know what I'm saying? Dickies, the dicky suit. I didn't do that. I may have had some dicky pants, but I never had to. I never had the button down shirt. Never did. You know, if I could find me a dicky sweater, I probably rock that. You know, I like old school shit, so, you know, vintage stuff, I love that. But I never got around to doing, you know, and doing stuff like that. The crease. So sharpen your pants. Now. See the crease thing? Stop. I think that stopped right after middle school with me. You know, like once Pac passed away, I stopped creasing my jeans. I did, I did. Yeah. I never did Ben Davis either. Dickies. Yes. Chuck's. Absolutely. Cortez's. I got me a pair of Cortez's. You know, the house slippers. Absolutely. The one from the swap meet. Yeah. The corduroy joints. Definitely, definitely. But that's, you know, that's anywhere between 95 and 2001. Let's get back to the funeral, though. It's a tough thing to lose somebody that you really love like that. [00:05:19] Speaker F: It is. [00:05:20] Speaker A: And this particular fashion was loved by a lot. You know, we had a lot of brands under this fashion statement, you know, and you had to. You just had to be there. But what I want to do is call my call sister Gigi up for the eulogy and so she can better break down the history of this. Of this era. [00:05:56] Speaker D: Good morning, good afternoon, and good evening to the congregation. And with high praise and honor, thank you, Pastor Baylor, for inviting me up to share my thoughts and prayers on the deceased. This fashion have been through high school hallways, late night kickbacks, date nights, club scenes just to scratch the surface. They have been prominent in our lives. And to show respect to their elders, I would like to acknowledge Theodora Gucci, Lacalis. And let's pay homage to the surviving siblings and loved ones. Fashion Goyard, Amiri, Teflor Brandon Blackwood Leggings, One Piece Outfit Statements. And to all loved ones and friends we missed, please know we love and continue to support you. We know with you fashion will continue to evolve. I would like to remind the congregation at the end of service that light snacks and refreshments will be served in the back. And with that being said, I Want to hand the mic back to Pastor Baila? [00:07:46] Speaker A: Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you, Gigi. And make sure when y'. All. First of all, it's only right that pastor get his plate made before everybody else, but we will be forming the line, and make sure you get the. Make sure you get. I think we have a raffle going on later on as well. You know what I mean? So make sure y' all stay in tune with that. Thank you. Thank you, Sister Gigi. I appreciate those kind words. And, uh, thank you very. Thank you very much. Um, although these. The. [00:08:27] Speaker E: The. [00:08:28] Speaker A: These garments may. May no longer hang in our closets, uh, they will forever hang in our memories, okay? And that's the beautiful thing about having these type of memories for these garments that we had. You know what I mean? [00:08:48] Speaker E: Now, [00:08:51] Speaker A: a lot of people that is here to talk about the greatness of this fashion statement in this era. Yeah. You don't need me to convince you, or you don't need Gigi, Sister Gigi to tell you how it was back then. No, no, no, no, no. We have so many other people to express their feelings. Now. I will say this, okay? At this time, if you would like to come up, come forward and say any few words about the deceased, we ask that you keep it to a limit. You know, that. That you limit your remarks to at least two minutes. Please, please. Air conditioning is broken. We trying to get to the repass and eat real good. Plus, we do have a service going on right after, so whoever feels the need to come and express their love for the deceased, please do it now. [00:10:03] Speaker B: Good evening, y'. All. It's a shame that we have to come together again. We were just at the service for fat laces, and now here we are, gathering to say goodbye to baby fat. Now, a lot of people talked a lot of shit about baby fat, but you know, one thing about baby fat that I never experienced was baby fat just not being there. I felt like everywhere you looked, everywhere you turned, baby fat was there. You could rely on baby fat. Satin jackets, velvet sweatsuits, halter tops, tube tops, belts, earrings. I remember back in the day, I had silver hoop baby fat earrings. Baby fat with that little cat in the middle. Halter tops with the baby fat symbol on the front. Let's not forget baby fat on the sweatpants all across that ass. Had your ass covered. For real? [00:11:37] Speaker E: For real. [00:11:39] Speaker B: But nothing kept me warm like that baby fat black satin jacket. Oof. You couldn't tear that jacket apart from me. And now baby fat is gone, left without Even saying goodbye up and out of the blue. I can't recall the last time I saw baby fat. Baby fat, you up in heaven now with the fat laces. And I hope y' all are having a grand old time making fashion history. [00:12:33] Speaker A: Okay. All right, then. All right. And again, I want to remind y', all. I definitely want to remind y', all that y' all got to keep it to. Y' all got to keep it to two minutes, okay? All right. Because we gotta. We gotta get to this repass in a minute. But whoever else needs to come up again, let's keep it just two minutes. Keep it. Sister Gigi, make sure you make. You know, they. [00:12:55] Speaker E: They. [00:12:55] Speaker A: You know, [00:13:00] Speaker E: I'm hurt. I'm hurt right now. Cause my homie ain't no longer with me. My homie Izod held it down. Izod was my guy, you know, when Polo wasn't there for me and he got too high for me. And if Tommy. Tommy got too high for me, Izod was there. He was there at TJ Maxx, at Marshalls, [00:13:49] Speaker A: at Ross. Take your time. [00:13:52] Speaker E: He was legit. I'm hurt. My eyes on this. No longer around, and I wish he was still here. Legit. Legit. You saw that eye with the shield? It was legit. And I ain't never gonna forget that. I ain't never gonna forget that. When Nautica was playing in my face and Eddie Bauer was playing in my face, Izod was holding it down. You ain't never gonna be forgotten, Izod. Word up. Word. [00:14:43] Speaker A: Okay, all right, all right, all right. And again, it's okay to cry. Look, quick little. We gotta. Anybody out here that drives a Toyota Celica, license plate? Juicy? Juicy.
